Client: PBS NewsHour, Student Reporting Labs
Problem: Design promotional posters for the Student Reporting Labs program as a whole, as well as its newly established STEM Labs initiative.
Solution #1: The Student Reporting Labs (SRL) program teaches middle and high schoolers about news production and global issues by teaming students with local PBS stations. Through in-field mentorship, students investigate topics of interest and learn to independently produce original video reports. By using a singular shot of a student in the field, we emphasized the hands-on nature of the program. An eye-catching yellow reflects the program's youthful energy, while the ambiguous SRL tagline 'Think, Create, Inform," piques viewers' interest in knowing more.
Solution #2: The new SRL STEM Labs program encourages student reporters to explore topics related to science, technology, engineering, and math. Keeping in mind the sterile and objective nature of the STEM fields, as well as their unique overlap, I designed a poster with a clean, subdued color palette and layered-semi transparent graphics in strategic fashion to suggest the depth of the field. Pull-quotes were employed to highlight the qualitative effects of the program.
